Jared Goff takes top spot in NFL QB power rankings for Week 6

Week 5 was the week of upsets across the NFL.

Both of the league’s remaining undefeated teams – the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills – lost at home to a pair of 2-2 teams. The Tennessee Titans and rookie quarterback Cam Ward finally picked up their first win of the season in the desert against the Arizona Cardinals.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler, who had an 0-10 record as a starter to begin his NFL career, looked like the much better of the two younger quarterbacks in Sunday’s game. He picked up his first career win over the New York Giants, handing rookie Jaxson Dart his first career loss in the process.

And on Monday night, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence managed to out-duel the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes despite facing a 14-0 deficit early.

With so many upsets and strong performances from quarterbacks that had ranked in the bottom half of last week’s power rankings, there was bound to be some shake-ups.

Here’s how the NFL quarterback power rankings look ahead of Week 6 of the NFL season:

NFL quarterback power rankings: Week 6 edition

1. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Last week: 3

Goff’s 19-of-23 outing with three touchdowns against the Bengals moved him into the league lead in completion percentage (75.2%) and touchdown passes (12). He’s also No. 1 in passer rating and QBR among quarterbacks to have started all five games – only Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was ruled out in Week 5, has higher marks.

2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Last week: 1

The Patriots handed Allen and the Bills their first loss of the season Sunday night. Allen’s red-zone interception near the end of the third quarter allowed New England to extend its lead to two scores, which provided a crucial swing in a divisional game.

3. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Last week: 2

Mahomes’ end zone interception that was returned for a touchdown was not entirely his fault – the Jaguars designed an excellent concept to force the error – but it did give Jacksonville the lead and major momentum at home. The Chiefs’ quarterback also threw for 318 yards and once again led his team in rushing yards in Week 5.

4. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Last week: 5

The Rams may have lost Thursday night, but it certainly wasn’t because of their quarterback. Stafford’s 389 yards against the 49ers have him comfortably in the league lead with 1,503 yards. His three touchdowns that night also mean he’s at 11 passing touchdowns – second-most in the NFL through five weeks.

5. Drake Maye, New England Patriots

Last week: 6

Maye took down the mighty Bills with his 22-of-30 mark on pass attempts for 273 yards. But no stat reflects the couple of elite throws Maye somehow managed to complete to Stefon Diggs.
