A-Rod and Derek Jeter are blaming Yankees GM, not Aaron Boone

During the Fox Sports postgame show after the New York Yankees were eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays, fans heard from two New York legends.

Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter both shared their thoughts about why the Yankees were not able to get out of the round against their divisional rival Blue Jays in the ALDS. Rodriguez and Jeter agreed: Yankees manager Aaron Boone is not to blame for these shortcomings.

Boone and Jeter were teammates together on the Yankees in 2003, and though the current manager never actually played alongside Rodriguez during his pro career, A-Rod still defended him.

Here is what Rodriguez said:

“Aaron has been very classy. We’ve all been very consistent with that. Honestly, from the entire organization, he’s the one guy I would circle that has the least to blame. He’s got a lot of talent but for me personally, one of the worst construction of a roster I’ve ever seen. You’ve got three left-handed catchers. You have five DH’s. You have a first baseman in and out. It’s just a very, very difficult hand for Boone.”

Jeter continued:

“Aaron said it. They got beat. They got beat. Last year, you can sit back and talk about the World Series and Game 5 and say the Yankees beat themselves in that particular game. In this series, the Toronto Blue Jays proved that they were a better team. From top to bottom, they were a better team … Aaron did a good job. I mean, look, he’s working with what he has to work with and he sticks up for his players. I know he takes a lot of heat. I’m not saying it from any inside knowledge but I’m sure pretty sure Aaron’s not the one that’s calling every move that they make throughout the game.”

These are strong words from both broadcasters, who are not pointing fingers at anyone in the clubhouse.

They are instead clearly passing the blame to the front office, executive Brian Cashman, and owner Hal Steinbrenner.
