Arizona State (4-1, 2-0) travels to Rice-Eccles Stadium for a Big 12 showdown against Utah (4-1, 1-1) this week.
The first injury reports of the week were released on Oct. 8. The most notable thing for the Sun Devils is that wide receiver Jalen Moss is expected to play for the first time since the season-opening win against Northern Arizona.
He has practiced all week after not doing so for the previous month.
Moss transferred to ASU in the offseason after two years at Fresno State, in which he had 1,269 receiving yards. He sustained a lower-leg injury against NAU and was expected to return against Baylor, but was then sidelined by an illness.
“He’s a guy who can really catch the football,” coach Kenny Dillingham said. “He’s had 90 or 100 catches in his last two years, which is huge for us, especially since we’re playing a team that’s known to be sticky in coverage.”
Those listed as out include S Xavion Alford, LB Zyrus Fiaseu, DL Zac Swanson, DE Albert Smith, TE Jayden Fortier, DL MyKeil Gardner, DB Plas Johnson, QB Cam Dyer, OL Brent Helton and OL Doughless Teloma.
Alford and Fiaseu are the biggest losses, while Swanson was in the defensive line rotation. Those players are in spots where ASU has depth. Adrian “Boogie” Wilson has been starting in place of Alford and has 23 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and one recovery. Sophomore Martell Hughes will get playing time in place of Fiaseu.
OL Desean Bryant is listed as doubtful, while RB Kyson Brown, DB Montana Warren and DL Ian Shewell are questionable. Warren was out last week.
Punter Kanyon Floyd is a question mark. Technically, he will play because he is the holder on extra points and field goals, but he does have a leg injury that has prevented him from punting.
The most notable player from Utah is safety Rabbit Evans, who is listed as out. DT Dallas Vakalahi is probable.
