According to an update shared by Fabrizio Romano, Eric Garcia is on the verge of signing a new contract with Barcelona, marking another significant step in the club’s long-term planning under Hansi Flick.
The trusted journalist revealed that Barcelona will not allow Garcia to leave for free, recalling how, in January 2025, the club had rejected an important proposal for the defender on a permanent deal.
Romano explained that there was a concrete possibility of Garcia leaving at that time, but the Spaniard decided to stay at the club.
That decision has turned out to be a positive one, as Flick is reportedly more than happy with the defender’s commitment and progress.
“Eric is a really important player for Flick and is going to be an important part of the project,” Romano added, highlighting the growing trust between the player and the manager.
Barcelona confident of renewal
Garcia’s current deal with Barcelona runs until the end of the 2025/26 season, but the club’s intention is clear that they want him to continue.

This sentiment was recently confirmed by sporting director Deco, who stated, “The idea is to continue with him as long as he wants.
“The interest is mutual: we are happy with Eric. We are happy and want to renew his contract. We are talking, and the renewal will happen at the right time.”
This confidence reflects how much Garcia has grown in importance under Flick. Once seen as a rotational defender, he has now become one of the pillars of Barcelona’s setup this season.
His tactical adaptability has allowed him to shine not only in his natural centre-back role but also as a right-back or even a left-back when required.
Flick’s belief in Garcia’s composure, positional awareness, and ability to play from the back has made him a fixed presence in the team.
At just 24, Garcia has matured into a dependable figure who represents both the present and future of Barcelona’s defensive structure.
