Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum undergoes thumb procedure, Week 6 status TBD

Here we are, everyone, writing and updating you on yet another injury that has popped up for the Bucs. To put a positive spin on things, though, it seems to be less severe than the wording of it may intend to make it sound.

On Wednesday, Bucs’ head coach Todd Bowles announced that cornerback Zyon McCollum had undergone a procedure on his thumb following the team’s Week 5 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Bowles was asked about his availability for Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, and she shared, “We’ll see how he feels toward the end of the week. It’s going to be touch and go.”

Bowles shared an interesting note on the injury, sharing that it actually happened before the team’s win on Sunday.

“It happened before the game. It actually happened a week ago. He played with it and we taped him up and casted it up for him.”

It will depend on the pain level following the procedure, but it seems that he could handle it prior to. If he cannot go, however, the Bucs would then be dealing with yet another cornerback injury, as they are already dealing with issues with Benjamin Morrison and Jamel Dean. We saw in Week 5 what can happen when they are down at the position, as Sam Darnold passed for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

They need McCollum against the 49ers, but time will tell.
