Former Wisconsin wide receiver named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Former Wisconsin Badgers and current Tennessee Titans wide receiver Chimere Dike was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The UW alumnus captured the honor following his performance in the Titans’ win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 on Oct. 5. The pass-catcher logged a 65-yard kickoff return in the second quarter, and he led the NFL with an average of 34.0 yards per kickoff return during the week.

Dike becomes the first Titans Kick Returner since 2012 to pocket the weekly acknowledge. The rookie also currently leads the NFL with 788 all-purpose yards. For context, San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey ranks second in the league with 669.

While he’s only accumulated 18 receiving yards through five games, Dike has logged 25 kick returns for 666 yards, including a long of 71 yards. He’s also returned six punts for 82 yards thus far in his rookie campaign.

Tennessee selected the former Badger and Gator with the first pick of the fourth round (No. 103 overall) of the 2025 NFL draft back in April. The Waukesha, Wisconsin, native spent four years with UW after venturing to Madison as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020.

During his tenure, he totaled 97 receptions, 1,478 receiving yards and nine touchdowns across 44 games from 2020-23. As a junior in 2022, he put together his most statistically impressive season with 47 catches, 689 yards and six scores. Dike then elected to transfer to Florida ahead of the 2024 season. He totaled 42 catches, a career-high 783 yards and two touchdowns alongside fellow former Badger Graham Mertz in Gainesville.

The collegiate veteran will now look to continue his momentum as a pro when the Titans sqaure off against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 12.
