Ian Machado Garry: Belal Muhammad an 'idiot' for trying to outbox Jack Della Maddalena

Ian Machado Garry dares Belal Muhammad to employ the same strategy as he did against Jack Della Maddalena.

Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) takes on former welterweight champion Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 265 co-main event on Nov. 22 at ABHA Arena in Doha, Qatar (ESPN+).

Muhammad is coming off a title loss to Della Maddalena at UFC 315 – a fight where he opted to mostly stand and trade before resorting to his grappling.

“Belal Muhammad, when he was defending his title in Montreal, Canada, thought that he could outbox a boxer,” Garry said on his Instagram. “He was an idiot and he was wrong. I hope he thinks he can try do that to me. It would make my life easier.”

Garry, who handed Carlos Prates his first UFC loss in their main event in April, is confident that he will make it look easy against Muhammad.

“You’re going to see speed like you’ve never seen before,” Garry said in another Instagram post. “Belal Muhammad, a respected former champion, will be made to look like an amateur in front of your very eyes. You watched me decimate (Neil) Magny, shut down Shavkat (Rakhmonov), piece up Prates, now you’re about to witness the greatest version of ‘The Future’ – Qatar, you’re very lucky indeed.”
