According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Barcelona have made initial contact with the camp of 16-year-old Mexican prodigy Gilberto Mora, signalling the club’s interest in the young attacker.

While no formal offer has been submitted, the Catalans have joined a growing list of European and international clubs vying for his signature.

Gilberto Mora has already attracted attention from some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Ajax, Arsenal, Manchester City, and even Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi currently plays.

A long-standing interest

Barcelona had previously invited Mora to train at La Masia last year, indicating long-term interest in the versatile attacker.

As reported before, Mora is primarily a left-winger, although he is capable of playing across the front line.

Naturally right-footed but comfortable with both feet, he is known for his speed, strength, and one-on-one ability, making him a dangerous threat in attack.

These qualities have made him one of the most promising prospects in his age group.

Merlo confirmed that Barcelona have reached out to Mora’s entourage, represented by Rafaela Pimenta, who also manages Erling Haaland.

Discussions reportedly included Mora’s career ambitions and the agent’s demands regarding a future transfer.

It is important to note that, due to FIFA regulations, Mora cannot move to Europe until he turns 18.

While his eventual move is widely expected, the final destination remains undecided, with multiple clubs still in contention.

What to make of this?

Barcelona’s interest highlights the club’s strategy to secure top young talent for the future, especially from the American continents.

With several top clubs already showing interest, Mora’s eventual decision will be closely watched, especially by the Blaugrana, who have made an early move.

If they can successfully attract Mora when he becomes eligible, he could become a key part of their attacking future, adding depth and versatility to the squad.
