An already-awkward situation with Bill Belichick and North Carolina has been turned up a few notches.
The team he was supposed to revitalize is 2-3, with three blowout losses on the schedule and a game on Friday against Cal coming. Even before the season that might have held a little more process, there were questions about whether he’d exercise a contract buyout, perhaps because college football might not be his thing or with concerns about his very public relationship with Jordon Hudson.

North Carolina is reportedly looking at a “potential exit strategy” with Bill Belichick
Potential exit strategy discussions took place Wednesday morning. That doesn’t mean Belichick will be fired, but preliminary conversations about the situation and its many prongs, effects, etcetera, were up for discussion.
– I can note that if this were to happen, the school would prefer to do it with cause to either eliminate or cut down on any buyout. This intel comes from two conversations, but it was said that particular aspect was formally discussed. But if termination with cause and no or a minimized buyout becomes a real option, it’s hard to imagine it won’t be acted on.
