Welcome to the Saturday, Oct. 11, Cincinnati Bearcats football vs. UCF Knights live update file. Today’s kickoff is again at noon, UC’s third lunchtime launch of the season.

The Bearcats come in undefeated in the Big 12 with back-to-back wins over Kansas and then-No. 12 (US LBM coaches poll) Iowa State. UCF is 3-2 (0-2 Big 12) with consecutive losses to Kansas State on the road and to Kansas last weekend in Orlando.

Scott Frost returns as UCF coach and he’s 2-0 against UC with wins in 2016 and 2017 before his five-year stint at his alma mater, Nebraska. Former UC running back Myles Montgomery returns to campus having gained 119 yards vs. Kansas State and 110 last week against Kansas.

UC’s led by quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week, who has been protected by the three-time Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week. Sorsby has been sacked only once and has thrown just one interception.

Also, for UC, left tackle Joe Cotton was named Outland Trophy National Player of the Week and linebacker Jake Golday was Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for a second time.

Cincinnati Bearcats, UCF Knights injury updates

In the initial injury report from the Big 12, UC running back Evan Pryor and center Gavin Gerhardt were listed probable, and cornerback Ormanie Arnold was questionable.

Among those out for UCF are defensive tackle Horace Lockett and former Anderson High School tight end Caden Piening. Quarterbacks Tayven Jackson and Jacurri Brown were listed as questionable. UC quarterback Brendan Sorsby was a teammate of Jackson’s when they both attended Indiana. Jackson started last week’s game vs. Kansas, which Cam Fancher (Huber Heights Wayne) finished. Jacurri Brown played the bulk of last year’s 19-13 loss to UC in the “Bounce House”.

Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby

Sorsby has thrown for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns with just one interception in five games. He has run for 291 yards and five scores. Last year against UCF, he was 25-for-38 with one touchdown, but was also intercepted twice. He had one rushing touchdown, but was held to four yards overall.

Jacurri Brown had his best game against the Bearcats, going 13-for-20 for 207 yards and a touchdown, plus rushing for 84 yards

Cincinnati Bearcats, UCF Knights matchups to watch

Myles Montgomery had two 100-yard games as a Cincinnati Bearcat, doing it for Luke Fickell in 2022 against Kennesaw State, then for Scott Satterfield in 2023 against Baylor. He’s surpassed the century mark in UCF’s opening Big 12 games vs. Kansas State and Kansas. UC’s defense is allowing just 116.8 yards rushing per game.

The UC running backs, Evan Pryor and Tawee Walker, combined for 200 yards vs. Iowa State, with Pryor running for a career-high 111 and Walker for a Bearcat best 89 yards. Walker’s head-on collision with Iowa State linebacker Carson Willich made the rounds on the internet.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. UCF Knights history

The series is tied 5-5 after UC’s 19-13 win last season. Gus Malzahn’s 2023 team held off the Bearcats 28-26, so Satterfield is 1-1 as Bearcats coach against them. Scott Frost is 2-0, winning 24-3 in Orlando against Tommy Tuberville’s last UC team and 51-23 in 2017 over Luke Fickell’s first group of Bearcats.

Since 2015, the results have flip-flopped each year.

Texas Tech in No. 9 in the US LBM poll, No. 10 in the Associated Press. BYU comes in at No. 18 in both. Arizona State is No. 21 in AP, No. 23 in the coaches poll and Iowa State is No. 21 in the coaches poll and No. 22 in AP. The Cincinnati Bearcats were just out of the Top 25 at No. 26 in AP and No. 28 in the coaches poll.

UC will sport new black helmets vs. UCF with the “Cincy” logo. The jersey will be red, the trousers black. The Nippert Stadium crowd is encouraged to wear black. UC has historically won six games in that combination: Pitt (2008), Illinois (2009), Miami RedHawks (2013), Memphis (2020), UCF (2021) and Indiana (2022).

Scott Springer predicts a Cincinnati Bearcats victory over UCF. Last week UC covered the spread and beat Iowa State, getting out to an early 31-7 lead in the second quarter and hanging on, 38-30. UCF led Kansas at halftime, but fell short 27-20 and couldn’t capitalize on two trips to the red zone with under two minutes to go against the Jayhawks.

Cincinnati Bearcats honor former offensive lineman

UC’s uniforms will feature a “JK 58” emblem. Early enrollee freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly passed away April 22 from an undiagnosed heart ailment. He had played on Avon High School’s 16-0 state championship team in 2024.
