Miles Sanders’ first season in Dallas has ended in disappointment. The veteran running back will miss the remainder of the season due to injury, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan. On Saturday, the team moved Sanders to the season-ending injured reserve as he deals with knee and ankle issues. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Sanders’ knee ailment will keep him out for the rest of the year, as he is set to undergo chondral tissue graft surgery.
It is the same procedure Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs had in January.
Sanders signed with Dallas this past offseason after Carolina released him. The move created $2.95 million of dead cap for the Panthers while freeing up $5.2 million of salary cap space. Philadelphia didn’t bite, signing former Packers running back A.J. Dillon to a one-year deal. With Sanders looking for a new team, he’s joining the Eagles‘ rivals, the hated Dallas Cowboys.

Sanders spent the previous two seasons in Carolina after signing as a free agent in 2023 following the Eagles’ Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. In two seasons with Carolina, Sanders had 184 carries for 637 yards, three touchdowns, and 51 catches for 302 yards and a touchdown.
Sanders logged 1,269 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns for the Eagles in his final season, and his 3,708 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in his first four seasons were good enough to land in the top ten all-time in franchise history.
