All summer long, the New York Giants and their fans witnessed a training camp battle for their No. 2 cornerback spot. Former 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott, a third-round pick in 2022, vied for the role. Neither stood out, and a rotation was agreed upon by the coaches for the interim.
The reality is, Flott has played more snaps, in fact, many more. Flott has played on 337 of the Giants’ 419 defensive plays (80.82 percent) while Banks has been on the field for only 103 plays (24.7 percent) and for just 11 over the Giants’ two most recent games.
What does the future look like at the position after Flott played 95 percent of the snaps against Philadelphia on Thursday night? Head coach Brian Daboll spoke about it on Friday in his session with the media.
“Part of it was our game plan of what we were going to do. Still have confidence in Tae, but just going into the game, really at the start of the week, that’s the plan that we did have,” said Daboll. “It could change next week based on what we’re doing or how we’re doing it. Flott did a really good job for us. Made a huge play. So, that was leading up to the week.”
The huge play Daboll was referring to was a fourth-quarter interception of a Jalen Hurts pass in the red zone that Flott returned 68 yards that led to the Giants’ game-sealing touchdown.

Flott has made the most of his opportunity, and it doesn’t appear that Banks can do much about it. Flott is playing like a starter is expected to play, while Banks is still experiencing some of the struggles that have given the coaches pause.
“Coming to the game, I was confident, and I appreciated them for giving me the opportunity, and in my head, I was just like, I got to make the most of it to stay out here. Prove to my defense, prove to my whole team and the coaching staff that I could do it,” Flott said after the game.
The rotation is dead for now. Daboll just doesn’t like closing doors. The Giants may finally have found a corner they can hang their hats on in Flott.
