While the start of the college basketball season is only a few weeks away, the Texas Longhorns have been busy on the recruiting trail. On Thursday, they get an encouraging update regarding five-star recruit Anthony Thompson. The talented small forward revealed his final six teams, and the Longhorns made the cut.
With Thomson’s commitment date set for October 21st, the Longhorns have a little less than two weeks to make their best pitch. Their competition includes Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, and UNC. Those are tough programs to go to battle with, but Sean Miller is hoping to surprise the basketball world during the first year of his Longhorns tenure.

The heavy interest in Thompson has not surprised many. He is currently ranked as the seventh-best player in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the second-best small forward and the best player from Ohio. During the recruiting process, Thompson has been a popular prospect, and it’s a good sign for Texas that they are still in the running.
Although the Longhorns still have a few holes to fill, they have been connected to some of the top prospects on the market. Sean Miller and his staff have made scholarship offers to Dylan Mingo, Deron Rippey Jr., Lucas Morillo, and Jasiah Jervis. Last week, the Longhorns were able to secure a commitment from four-star prospect Bo Ogden.

Over the next two weeks, the Longhorns will be a program to keep an eye on. They could use more players like Anthony, who can score in bunches. The Longhorns have had a few recruiting wins to celebrate recently and hope that Anthony is the latest one to join that group.
