NFL insider with injury update on Jaguars TE Brenton Strange

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed tight end Brenton Strange on injured reserve earlier this week. One NFL insider has some additional information on Strange’s injury.

According to Jordan Schultz, Strange is dealing with both a quad and hip injury that he sustained in the Jaguars‘ Monday Night win over Kansas City. Schultz adds that the hip injury includes a ligament tear.

Surgery will not be required for Strange, but he will be out for “at least” five weeks, per Schultz.

Strange’s 24 targets this season were the second-most on the Jaguars. He’s also second in receiving yards and has been an extremely reliable target for Trevor Lawrence, catching 20-of-24 passes, according to PFF.

Strange’s impact, however, goes well beyond that phase of the game. Strange is also a very capable blocker and can line up across the formation.

That do-it-all presence at tight end helps further open up the playbook for Liam Coen with all the different hats Strange can wear.

Without Strange, the combination of Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long will handle the tight end responsibilities.
