Arizona Cardinals TE Travis Vokolek taken off field on stretcher vs Colts with neck injury

INDIANAPOLIS — Arizona Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek was taken off the field at Lucas Oil Stadium on a stretcher after suffering a neck injury on a kickoff.

The play did not look remarkable at first glance.

Vokolek was routinely pushed by Colts linebacker Segun Olubi in the normal course of play, but he went down and wasn’t able to get to his feet.

Vokolek, a second-year tight end out of Nebraska, lay on the field motionless after the first Colts kickoff of the day. Doctors examined Vokolek on the field and quickly called for a stretcher, prompting medical personnel to bring out backboards from two separate places.

Trainers took Vokolek’s face mask off his helmet and lifted Vokolek onto a backboard to take him off on a stretcher, but the Cardinals tight end was able to move his fingers. His hands were strapped down on the stretcher, and he had a pulse oximeter on the finger of his left hand.

Vokolek was carted off the field quickly.
