The Oregon Ducks went into Saturday of Week 7 with a chance to double down on their high expectations and cement themselves as one of the best teams in the nation, and a favorite to win the national championship this year.
Instead, they went bust and are now looking to answer many questions about their season going forward.
The Ducks fell to the Indiana Hoosiers, 30-20, on Saturday afternoon, ending their 18-game home-winning streak, which was the longest in the nation. They dropped a few spots in our updated Big Ten Power Rankings and have now fallen several places in the new Week 7 US LBM Coaches Poll.
Going into the week, Oregon was ranked No. 2 in the nation, but with the loss to No. 7 Indiana, they fell to No. 9. Meanwhile, Indiana moved up to No. 3 in the nation.
All things considered, Oregon is still in a good position as far as the season outlook goes. They are expected to be favored in every game remaining on the schedule and have a good chance to finish the regular season at 11-1 if they play to their standard of football. While that may leave them on the outside of the Big Ten Championship game looking in, it will undoubtedly be good enough to get them into the College Football Playoff.
For now, though, it’s all about figuring out what went wrong and how they can fix it before heading to Rutgers next week to get the season back on the right track.
