Steelers draft target Drew Allar lost for year with injury

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers sent scouts to watch Penn State quarterback Drew Allar as he took on Northwestern. This was the third time the Steelers had scouted Allar, which confirms he was a top target for the Steelers in the 2026 NFL draft. However, the news is awful for Allar as Penn State head coach James Franklin announced the injury Allar suffered in the game would be season-ending.

This leaves Allar’s future up in the air. It could be some time until we know the timetable for Allar’s injury but if it is an ankle fracture or dislocation, he should be able to make a full recovery and see no lingering effects in the NFL. However, as a senior, it is unlikely that Allar would want to apply for a medical redshirt and frankly return to a Penn State team in complete disarray.

Given what we’ve seen from athletes and recovery from injuries like this, Allar could easily be ready to work out for teams at some point in the offseason, if not at the scouting combine, and ultimately, it won’t hurt his draft stock too much.

The question, from a Steelers point of view, is just what that stock is. Allar was a first-round lock going into the season but his struggles this season have pushed him down and he could end up being a real draft bargain.
