6 standouts from Packers' Week 6 win over the Bengals

The Green Bay Packers are back in the win column coming out of the bye week after a 27-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Once again, the Packers jumped out to a two-score lead and allowed a lesser opponent to hang around longer than necessary. Green Bay led 10-0 at halftime, but allowed the Bengals to claw their way back into the game thanks to a strong second half from new quarterback Joe Flacco.

In his second start against the Packers this season, Flacco completed 29 out of 45 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins accounted for 156 of those yards. A Chase touchdown cut Cincinnati’s deficit to 24-18 with 4 minutes and 11 seconds left, but a clutch third-down completion from Jordan Love to Matthew Golden put Green Bay into position for the game-sealing field goal.

Let’s look at the standouts who helped the Packers improve to 3-1-1 on the season:

K Lucas Havrisik

With Brandon McManus out with a quad injury, Green Bay turned to Havrisik to fill in on short notice. The former UFL kicker hadn’t kicked in an NFL game since 2023, and Lambeau Field is not the easiest environment to kick in. Yet, Havrisik looked comfortable, drilling both of his attempts from 43 and 39 yards away, with the latter being the field goal to put the game out of reach with less than two minutes remaining. He also made all three of his extra points. You can’t ask for much more from a fill-in kicker.

RB Josh Jacobs

Jacobs has come on strong over the past two games, topping at least 150 yards from scrimmage in both outings. His 93 rushing yards on Sunday marked a season-high, as did his 5.2 yards per carry. Jacobs also continued his strong season as a pass catcher out of the backfield, catching another five passes for 57 yards. He was also able to extend the lead with two rushing touchdowns, bringing his total to six on the season. The Packers’ run game hasn’t been as effective as it was a year ago, but it took advantage of a struggling Bengals defense this week.

WR Matthew Golden

Green Bay’s first-round receiver had 16 yards over the first two weeks, but is now up to 212 after turning it on over the past three games. Golden provided the explosive element the Packers offense needed against Cincinnati, finishing with a career-high 86 yards on three receptions that helped ignite scoring drives for Green Bay. In the first half, Golden showed off his playmaking skills with a 20-yard catch and run over the middle and an impressive 35-yard toe-tapping catch down the sideline. His final catch was the biggest of his career so far, a 31-yarder on 3rd-and-9 on the final scoring drive to help set up Havrisik’s dagger.

WR Romeo Doubs

Another week, another steady performance from Doubs. The fourth-year receiver continues to be Green Bay’s most consistent receiver, totaling 55 yards on five receptions against the Bengals. Doubs has been excellent at keeping the chains moving this season, as 15 of his 18 receptions have resulted in first downs. Currently in the last year of his rookie deal, the looming contract talks will only heat up if Doubs continues to play like this.

Edge Lukas Van Ness

Green Bay sacked Flacco twice in Week 3, but could only come away with one this time. That lone sack came from Van Ness, who blew past left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. on the first drive of the second half to bring down Flacco. The sack put the Bengals in an unfavorable 3rd and goal situation, but they scored two plays later on 4th-and-2 to make it a three-point game. Unfortunately, Van Ness exited the game with a foot injury and will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity. Matt LaFleur said in his postgame presser that they do not believe he broke anything. The Packers will hope they dodged an injury bullet with Van Ness, who is having his best season since being a first-round pick in 2023.

QB Jordan Love

His red-zone interception ending the first drive took away points, but Love was terrific from that point on, completing 19 of 26 passes for 259 yards (10 yards per attempt) and a big touchdown late to Tucker Kraft. Love had completions of at least 20 yards to four different players, including three to Matthew Golden, and he used his legs to gain 26 rushing yards, including two different first downs. Love had a passer rating over 100.0 for the fourth time in five starts in 2025.
