After losing Ben Powers to a biceps injury, the Denver Broncos are now attempting to patch up their depth on the offensive line.
The Broncos brought in four offensive linemen for tryouts on Monday, and Karsen Barnhart won the tryout, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Denver will add Barnhart to the practice squad.
Barnhart (6-5, 316 pounds) was a versatile offensive lineman at Michigan, starting nine games at left tackle, two at left guard, three at right guard and 17 at right tackle. After winning a college football national championship with the Wolverines, Barnhart signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
The 24-year-old lineman spent his rookie season on the Chargers’ practice squad, and he had a brief stint on L.A.’s practice squad again this year before being waived. The Broncos will now add him to their own practice squad to help shore up their guard depth. They also have guard Calvin Throckmorton on the practice squad, but he might be a candidate to get promoted to the 53-man roster.
Matt Peart started (and struggled) in the place of Powers in Week 6. After adding safety J.T. Gray to the active roster and Barnhart to the practice squad, Denver will have to make two corresponding roster moves to make room for the new players.
