Will Clemson football quarterback Cade Klubnik play in Saturday’s game against the SMU Mustangs in Week 8?
Klubnik suffered a sprained ankle late in the third quarter of the Tigers’ 41-10 win over Boston College on Saturday and didn’t return. He was 22-of-30 for 280 yards and a touchdown through the air, while rushing nine times for 48 yards, including a six-yard touchdown run.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about Klubnik’s availability at his weekly Tuesday press conference and said:
“He was just over with the trainers last night. He’s sore, but he’ll be a little better each day and should be hopefully ready to go.”
After the Tigers’ win at Boston College, Swinney said that Klubnik had rolled his ankle after a quarterback run in the final two minutes of the third quarter.
Swinney had said that Klubnik wanted to return against Boston College, but that the team had kept him out for the final 15-plus minutes against the Eagles with the Tigers up 34-10 at the time.

Swinney said Tuesday that while Klubnik didn’t practice on Monday, he expects the senior quarterback to be a full participant Tuesday and Wednesday.

Swinney said Tuesday that he expects Klubnik to play against SMU.
“I mean, he’s sore but (we) expect him to play. We’ll be smart with him. We’ve got almost a week before game time. He’s played a lot of football. The main thing right now is just getting him — make sure he’s got the plan down and then he’ll work into practice and be ready to go.”
Klubnik has thrown for 1,530 yards and 11 touchdowns to five interceptions through the Tigers’ first six games.

Kickoff for Clemson-SMU is 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be televised on ACC Network. The Tigers are 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Mustangs are 4-2 overall and 2-0 in ACC play.
