The Kansas City Chiefs waived veteran wide receiver Jason Brownlee on Monday, October 13.
Brownlee began his career in professional football with the New York Jets, who signed him as a free agent after the 2023 NFL draft. He joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2024 and made Kansas City’s 53-man roster after exceptional showings at training camp and in the preseason.
The Chiefs waived Brownlee to clear a space on their 53-man roster for star wideout Rashee Rice to occupy when he returned from suspension in Week 7.
In a post to Twitter, Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 shared the news of Brownlee’s departure from Kansas City, and Rice’s return from suspension:
The #Chiefs have waived WR Jason Brownlee and Rashee Rice is officially off the suspension list per NFL transactions. @KSHB41

If Brownlee clears waivers, he would be an ideal candidate to return to Western Missouri as a member of the Chiefs’ practice squad.
Stay tuned to see if Brownlee might get picked up by another team, or if he will land back in Kansas City in the coming days.
