Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney asked how he’s feeling about backup QB Christopher Vizzina

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney made it clear during his weekly radio show that he’s encouraged by what he’s seen from backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina this season. Swinney said he’s happy with Vizzina’s progress but wants to find more game reps for the young signal-caller.

The redshirt sophomore has seen action in three games so far, throwing for 37 yards on 7-of-14 passing with one interception while adding 21 rushing yards. After limited appearances early in the year, he stepped in again during Clemson’s 41-10 win at Boston College when Cade Klubnik exited late in the third quarter with an ankle injury. Vizzina guided the Tigers to a fourth-quarter touchdown drive, finishing with 19 rushing yards on four attempts despite throwing an interception.

Swinney said that getting Vizzina real in-game experience is an important step in his growth. The Birmingham, Alabama native, who was one of the top quarterback recruits in the 2023 class, has shown flashes of promise since arriving at Clemson. “What I’ve seen in practice, he’s doing a good job,” Swinney said. “I’m excited he’s been able to get a little experience, because that’s just going to help him moving forward.”
