Dabo Swinney provides update on injured Clemson football offensive lineman

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on injured offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon during his midweek press conference ahead of the Tigers’ Week 8 matchup against the SMU Mustangs.

Thurmon, a sophomore who played in eight games a season ago, suffered an injury in practice ahead of the Tigers’ game against North Carolina two weeks ago and did not play against the Tar Heels or Boston College.

A four-star recruit from Mississippi who starred at Bradwell Institute in Georgia, Thurmon has appeared in three games this season. He was ranked the nation’s No. 11 interior lineman recruit by On3 in the class of 2023.

“He’s still recovering,” Swinney said Tuesday. “He’ll be out this week, but we’ll see what happens (with) just where he is once we re-look at him again once we get into the open date. Then we’ll go from there.”

Thurmon played in 146 snaps his freshman season in 2024 and started one game: the Tigers’ Nov. 16 road trip to Pittsburgh, where he suffered a season-ending injury. This season, he started Clemson‘s Week 2 game against the Troy Trojans and played 51 snaps. He saw 28 snaps in the season opener against LSU.

Clemson will face SMU at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday in Death Valley. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
