Derrick Henry makes Ravens fans a heartfelt promise

Actions speak louder than words. It’s a familiar phrase that we’ve heard countless times. More often than not, the Baltimore Ravens weren’t what we were talking about when we heard it.

Still, as is often the case, using football as a reference point makes everything understandable. After witnessing five losses in six contests, everyone has grown tired of the lackluster showings, the explanations, and the numerous excuses.

Here’s a common misconception. ‘Fans care more than players do.’ While that may be true in some instances, it certainly isn’t true in the Ravens locker room. This roster cares. The emotions are different. They’ve invested long hours and would like to see their hard work pay off.

A somber Derrick Henry spoke with media members on Sunday following the 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. And, on the topic of seeing the fans give up on the possibility and leave the games early, he offered a promise that should sit well with the emotionally invested.

“We always appreciate the fans through everything. We all know it’s rough right now and they want to see a good product out there, and we haven’t been displaying that. So, them leaving early, it’s a given, but we want to let them know that we are going to keep working and we are going to turn this thing around. It’s hard to believe, being at 1-5, [that there is] still a lot of football left. We appreciate the support every single day. We know the situation right now; we accept everything. But at the end of the day, we’re going to keep going to work. We’re going to keep having faith in one another and get this thing turned around. I feel like we still have time. Just believe in us. We believe in each other, and we are going to get it where we need to go.”

Words from a King, one whom we’ve seen respond to adversity by persevering time and time again. From his mouth to our ears. That said, let’s amend something said earlier in this conversation.

Again, talk is often cheap. This is, however, Derrick Henry’s promise, so it hits a little different. Guys can talk when we know they are going to back up what they’ve been saying.

The King plays the game like a respectable prizefighter, with just the right amount of confidence and humility. He has ‘played like a Raven’ since arriving in the nest. He has earned his right to make requests of The Flock, and you can best believe The Flock is behind him.
