Ja'Marr Chase's slight bulletin-board material has Steelers' attention

Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase didn’t shy away from throwing out a little possible bulletin-board material for the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of Thursday’s showdown.

Speaking with reporters after his team’s loss to Green Bay, Chase had some interesting comments about the short turnaround before a clash with a divisional rival.

The big excerpt that went viral and even got the attention of Steelers players: “We know the Steelers are going to come in and try to raw-dog us and kill us. But we will be ready for that challenge and waiting for it.”

Now, the Steelers have seen it about a day later.

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette caught the big reaction from Steelers defender Joey Porter Jr.: “Yeah, that was crazy. I mean, he’s not wrong in a sense, I guess. That was a crazy comment. I mean we ain’t trying to play games with them, we’re trying to win the football game. So, yeah, he’s right.”

Chase is spot on, which Porter salutes. If the Bengals slip up and lose again, it’ll be a fifth straight loss and tank the Bengals to 2-5. Porter and the Steelers are 4-1 and running away with the AFC North and would love to make it happen, effectively wrapping up the division in mid-October.

But if Chase and the Bengals can fend that off and pick up a win, suddenly they’re 2-3 overall, 2-0 in the division and 3-1 in a bad AFC overall.

A lot needs to go right for that to happen and the Steelers are hungry to play the season-ender. But Chase is saying these things publicly and setting the tone while stepping up as a leader for a reason.
