Nebraska's Harper Murray wins Big Ten Player of the Week award

More accolades arrived for members of the Nebraska volleyball team on Monday, following another weekend of sweeps. The Big Ten announced that outside hitter Harper Murray earned conference player of the week.

This is Murray’s first-ever Big Ten Player of the Week accolade and is the first Husker to win the award since Merritt Beason back in early November 2023. Murray earned the award alongside Penn State’s Kennedy Martin, who helped the Nittany Lions sweep No. 7 Wisconsin and defeat Northwestern 3-1.

Martin led Penn State with 47 kills with eight errors off 89 attacks for a .438. Murray, meanwhile, finished the weekend with a .519 attack percentage, delivering 28 kills with one error off 52 total attacks, guiding the Huskers to sweeps over Washington and No. 12 Purdue. She especially struck big in Nebraska’s win over the Boilermakers, finishing with 16 kills off 25 attacks with no errors, earning a career-high .640 hitting percentage.

Murray also tallied five digs, two service aces and two blocks in the win over Purdue. Against Washington, Murray hit 12-of-27 with just one error for a .407 hitting percentage, while also snatching seven digs, three blocks and one service ace.

On the season, Murray leads the team with 186 kills off 420 attacks for a percentage of .314. She also leads Nebraska in service aces, hitting 15 on the year. Her three aces this past weekend helped her break into the top 10 in school history in career service aces.

Murray now sits in 10th with 90 career service aces. She is also 12 kills away from reaching the 1,000 mark and is on pace to finish the season in the top 25 in school history in all-time kills.
