Report: Nets could bring F Drew Timme back to fill last Two-Way spot

The Brooklyn Nets made two surprising moves after going through three of their four preseason games in preparation for the 2025-26 NBA campaign that could prove to be difficult. One of those surprising moves that Brooklyn made was waiving forward Drew Timme despite how well he played last season, but it sounds like Timme’s story with the Nets hasn’t hit its last chapter.

“Still, the 25-year-old Timme could still be back, with a source calling it “undetermined” whether the Texan lands the Nets’ final two-way spot,” Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote on Timme. Timme, along with guard Dariq Whitehead, was waived on Monday following the team’s 111-109 preseason win over the Phoenix Suns in Macao, China, a game that neither player drew much playing time for.

For Timme in particular, he found himself in quite the bind coming into training camp given that he primarily plays as a center in the NBA or in the G League and Brooklyn already has Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe. The Nets typically don’t play more than two centers within a single game and even if Timme could bide his time at the power forward position, Brooklyn has Noah Clowney and Danny Wolf to fill that role.

Timme drew praise from people like former NBA center Kendrick Perkins for how well he played during the Las Vegas Summer League, but the NBA regular season is a different animal than summer ball. Timme played well last season in a limited sample size as he averaged 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and 62.5% from the free-throw line in nine games played.

Whether the Nets choose to bring Timme back to fill the last Two-Way spot is left to be seen as general manager Sean Marks has more tough decisions to make prior to the beginning of the regular season. However, given what Timme has shown thus far in his G League and NBA career, it may be worth taking a flier on the former Gonzaga Bulldog given how some people have talked about his game.
