One of the Carolina Panthers‘ leaders spoke about the team’s running back “debate” about Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, and he doesn’t think there should even be a “debate” at all.
On Thursday, defensive lineman Derrick Brown was asked for his two cents on the increasingly intriguing backfield situation between Hubbard and Dowdle. And instead of leaning one way or the other, the Pro Bowl defender assured reporters that both backs will be a big part of their attack.
“Obviously, Rico’s had success his last few weeks, and this whole thing about which one or this or that—it’s BS,” Brown replied. “We got two great running backs, and we got a one-two punch. Everybody better stop worrying about which one, but how long can they go. That’s the question.”
There was no question as to how effective Dowdle has been in Hubbard’s stead. With the latter sidelined due to a calf strain, the former amassed a whopping 473 scrimmage yards—the most over a two-game span in franchise history—in a pair of wins against the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys.
Hubbard is expected to return this weekend, when the Panthers visit the New York Jets for their Week 7 matchup.
