The NFL trade deadline is a few weeks away, and the New England Patriots are viewed as one of the teams that might make a move.
Most would assume the team would be looking to add a receiver or edge rusher through a midseason trade. However, multiple NFL executives are expecting them to add a running back, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
It would make sense given the struggles the team has had at the running back position. They lost Antonio Gibson to a season-ending ACL injury. Veteran running back Rhamondre Stevenson has struggled with fumbling issues, and rookie TreVeyon Henderson is still developing.
“Team execs have also pegged the Patriots among teams that could look to add a back in the coming weeks,” Fowler wrote.
Bringing in another experienced running back would be a good move for the Patriots.
The team is currently ranked 26th in the league with 91.5 rushing yards per game. Their inability to move the ball on the ground consistently could come back to haunt them at some point in the season. They desperately need a spark at the running back position, and a new addition could certainly help with that.
