Will Michigan State football have its starting quarterback for Saturday’s road game at Indiana? Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith provided an update on that during his weekly radio show.
Earlier in the week, Smith said Chiles would be a late-week decision on whether or not he’d be able to play at Indiana this week. It’s not clear what injury Chiles is officially dealing with, but he did have to leave the last game against UCLA in concussion protocol.
On Wednesday, Smith said during his weekly radio show that Chiles has been working in practice on a “limited” basis. That quote is courtesy of Chris Solari.

Chiles has started all 18 games for the Spartans since he transferred from Oregon State during the 2023 offseason. This year, Chiles has thrown for 1,019 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions, and has ran for 186 yards and five touchdowns. If Chiles is not able to play, backup quarterback Alessio Milivojevic will make his first career start.
According to Solari, Smith also provided a brief positive injury update during his radio show. He stated that the Spartans defense could get back a number of key players, including defensive tackle Ben Roberts, safety Nikai Martinez and cornerback Ade Willie.
Smith on his weekly radio show also says MSU has a chance to get a few guys back on defense, mentioning DT Ben Roberts, S Nikai Martinez, NB Ade Willie. Uncertain still on TE Michael Masunas.

Michigan State is listed as a near four-touchdown underdog at Indiana this week, and many are wondering if Smith could be coaching his final game on the Spartans sidelines on Saturday. Getting some positive injury news could certainly help Michigan State’s odds in this game, but it still will take quite the impressive effort to pull off an upset of this nature.
Kickoff from Bloomington, Ind. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. This game between the Spartans and Hoosiers will be available to watch via streaming on Peacock.
