Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has quickly changed the culture for the franchise, and he’s got a lot of his players buying into what he’s building, as well.
Last season, the Bears were held back by coaching malpractice, a 10-game losing streak, and a locker room that had been screaming for accountability and changes from top to bottom, a lot of which took place during this past offseason.
Even when players have not been able to get on the field, they’re still recognizing the impact that Johnson has made with his emotions and attitude toward the football team. This week, veteran linebacker T.J. Edwards praised his new head coach for being right in line with the players on the team.
“I think one thing that I appreciate about Coach, he’s out there with us,” Edwards told the Mully and Haugh show on 670 the Score. “You feel his emotion, when things aren’t going well, he’s pissed off with us but he’s also knowing that we’ll be fine. I love his mindset throughout the games. He’s been great all year, steady throughout the week, kind of like us (the players), it’s awesome to have a coach like that who’s in it just like you are as players. It’s been good for sure.”
It’s obvious that, over the team’s first five games of the season, Johnson has earned the respect of his players, and even more importantly, their belief in what he’s doing. Not everything is going to be smooth sailing for the rest of the season, but the culture change within the Bears franchise is clear and obvious.
