If not for a Super Bowl win by Nick Foles and a phenomenal run by Jalen Hurts, there would actually be cause to make an argument that Donovan McNabb is the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history. He owns the franchise career records for passing attempts (4,746), completions (2,801), passing yards (32,873), and passing TDs both in the regular season (216) and in the playoffs (24).
McNabb is in the franchise’s Hall of Fame. The organization retired the No. 5 jersey in his honor. Currently, he is among the modern-era finalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
McNabb never won a Super Bowl, though, and that’s why conversations shift to Foles and Hurts when we begin discussing Eagles quarterbacks in another stratosphere. It may not be fair, but that’s how things work at the game’s highest level.
Make no mistake, though. ‘Number 5’ is no slouch. He is a six-time Pro Bowler who is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 75th Anniversary Team and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. He was twice named a finalist for the NFL’s Man of the Year Award and finished second in the MVP voting following the 2000 season. Speaking of MVPs, he recently mentioned a Dallas Cowboys star as a potential candidate.
Wait! Now, hold on a second. Say it ain’t so ‘5’!
Donovan McNabb compliments Dak Prescott.
If Saquon Barkley’s outstanding 2024-25 Eagles season didn’t teach us anything else, we learned that a running back will never be named league MVP. The only time they’d make an exception is if he broke Eric Dickerson’s record, but if we’re being honest, he may not win it then.
The NFL’s Most Valuable Player trophy is now a quarterback’s award, and recently, Kay Adams asked McNabb his thoughts on Dak Prescott. The Eagles legend was very complimentary about the Dallas Cowboys star while guesting on Up & Adams recently. Prescott topped his list of possible MVP candidates. What is this world coming to?

Okay, truth be told, McNabb has a point, but there isn’t an Eagles fan who probably isn’t cringing after hearing that. An Eagle complimenting a Cowboy? What’s next? Let’s hope we don’t see photos of Jerry Jones and Jeffrey Lurie hanging out at any golf courses.
