After New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn gave a very interesting response in his defense of quarterback Justin Fields earlier this week, he has provided some context.
After losing 13-11 to the Denver Broncos last week, the Jets (0-6) remained the only team in the NFL that is still winless. Now New York will look ahead to facing the Carolina Panthers (3-3) and they are on the rise.
Regardless, Glenn is sticking with Fields in that outing.
While being sacked nine times, Fields completed nine of 17 passes for just 45 yards for the Jets against the Broncos. His net passing total combined was -10 yards. That is brutal as can be. Even Fields admitted it
It’s not that head coach Aaron Glenn had “responsibility” for the way Fields played, but he is the man in charge. Glenn could have changed quarterbacks against Denver and put in Tyrod Taylor as Fields struggled… Glenn could also do that moving forward.
When asked about potentially doing so, Glenn got a bit defensive and criticized the question even being asked.
But Glenn has since explained why he felt that way. He essentially said it was only “one bad game” from Fields in Glenn’s mind.
Glenn’s full thoughts can be found in the clip below:
“When you look at what Justin did the games that he played, I didn’t think he was bad at all. I actually thought he did some pretty good things in those four games. In this fifth game, he took a step back. I’m with you guys 100% and we can’t have that. We have to get better with… pic.twitter.com/MAV0CT6G0Y
