The Green Bay Packers will face one of two quarterbacks on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals: seventh-year starter Kyler Murray, who is nursing a foot injury, or veteran backup Jacoby Brissett, who started for the Cardinals last week.
Murray was out last week but practiced in a limited capacity this week and is listed as questionable. Still, indications point to Murray sitting out another week and Brissett being the starter when the Packers face the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Sunday in Week 7 action.
The Packers faced a backup quarterback last week in Joe Flacco, who arrived in Cincinnati five days before taking on Jeff Hafley’s defense. The Packers shutout the Bengals in the first half, but Flacco found his footing and eventually hit Ja’Marr Chase for several big plays over the final 30 minutes, but Green Bay prevailed late, 27-18.
Murray faced the Packers last season, losing 34-13 at Lambeau Field. He averaged 6.7 yards per attempt but rushed for only 14 yards on seven attempts. The Cardinals are 0-2 in games started by Murray against the Packers, including a home loss in 2021. Brissett has never thrown a regular season pass against the Packers.
This post will update as more information is learned and an official decision is made come inactives on Sunday.
Rapoport: Cardinals expected to start Brissett

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cardinals are planning to start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback on Sunday.
Last week, Murray was inactive and Brissett made his first start of the season. He produced a 300-yard passing game and led the Cardinals to 27 points, but the Colts scored a late touchdown and then stopped Brissett and the Cardinals on fourth down inside the 10-yard line.
How did Brissett play last week?
Brissett, who is now in his 10th NFL season, made his 54th career start last week. He completed 27 of 44 passes for 320 yards, two touchdown passes and one interception, and he had the Cardinals in position to win several times in the second half. When kept clean in the pocket, Brissett completed 22 of 25 passes. When pressured, he found only five completions on 22 pressured dropbacks, per PFF. An experienced quarterback, Brissett knows how to play from the pocket and get rid of the ball on time, but he lacks mobility and the dynamic playmaking ability of Kyler Murray when plays break down. Brissett scrambled once, threw the ball away five times and was sacked twice. Although not a mirror image, Brissett isn’t unlike Joe Flacco in terms of wanting to play on time from the pocket.
