Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin made his preseason debut in Friday’s 119-114 preseason finale loss at the Toronto Raptors after missing some time during the summer due to injury. General manager Sean Marks explained during Media Day that Demin had been dealing with a plantar fascia injury, but the rookie provided more context on how long he has dealt with this ailment.

“For sure. Probably. Its going to take some time probably to really get rid of everything. But as long as its not (dangerous), as long as its safe for me to play, Im good to go,” Demin said of his injury, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Lewis noted in his post on X that Demin’s injury originally cropped up during the predraft process, meaning that his plantar fascia has been an issue for at least four months as of this writing.

What makes this development surprising is that Demin was able to participate in the Las Vegas Summer League in July and looked about as healthy as one could have expected from the former BYU Cougar. Demin played in three games in Vegas (25.1 minutes per contest) and averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from three-point land.

However, when training came around, Demin was not participating in the contact portions of practice as he was trying to rehab his plantar fascia injury to the point that he could fully participate in the action. In the lead up to the preseason finale, Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said that Demin had begun playing in 5-on-5 action and would be expected to play against the Raptors.

That was great news for Demin and for everyone that wanted to see him play and he didn’t disappoint in Toronto as he put up 14 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of playing time. Ultimately, Demin is healthy enough to play now so it seems that his plantar fascia issue is in the past, but it’s interesting to know that the rookie has been dealing with this injury for as long as he had been.
