The world has never been more connected.
With the rise of social media and advancements in technology, you can experience the world at your fingertips. In many ways, this can be a great equalizer. Providing countless opportunities to individuals with just the push of a button.
Students and tourists travel the globe, understanding cultures and broadening their horizons in ways that were previously unimaginable. The same is true in some of the NFL’s smaller markets, specifically for a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Recently ranked as the most boring city in America, Jacksonville isn’t considered to be one of the NFL’s premier destinations.
While that isn’t the reason for the Jaguars‘ desire to play in London every year, it certainly adds some spice to a team that seemed to be in search of it. For over a decade, the team has considered London their home for at least one week every season – with limited exceptions.
Their willingness to travel across the pond led many to conclude that they would someday live there permanently. However, the Jaguars seem to understand that while vacations are nice, you only have one place you can truly call home.
Here’s a look at whether the team will eventually move to London and why they are playing there in the first place.
Will the Jaguars move to London?
The Jaguars will not be moving to London.
It was rumored for a long time, especially with the team heading to London for at least one game every year. Taxes, travel and other logistical concerns remained at the forefront of the discussion for a long time, but there is a new reason that showcases the team’s firm roots in Florida.
In 2024, the Jaguars inked a deal with Jacksonville to renovate EverBank Stadium. The plan costs $1.4 billion, which will essentially transform the Jaguars’ existing stadium into a new one without having to start from scratch.
Construction on the renovations began in February 2025, with the expectation that they will be complete in August 2028, just in time for the kickoff of the 2028 NFL season.
The move will require the Jaguars to vacate the stadium for the entirety of the 2027 season after playing two years with the venue at a reduced capacity.
These renovations seemingly put to bed any talk of the team moving to London, even though it’s unclear what stadium will serve as the team’s temporary home in 2027.
Why do the Jaguars always play in London?
The Jaguars have become a fixture in the NFL’s London game, which dates back to an agreement they struck with Wembley Stadium in 2012.
Jacksonville agreed to play one home game each season from 2013 to 2016, and this agreement was later extended and continues to this day.
The team, which notably plays in a smaller market, has received plenty of exposure from its London contests and remains a key component in the NFL’s European expansion debate.
