The Green Bay Packers traveled to the desert for Week 7 and escaped with a 27-23 win against the Arizona Cardinals.
It was the second straight week the Packers faced a team without their starting quarterback and still required a strong finish to secure the victory.
Jacoby Brissett got his second-straight start in place of an injured Kyler Murray. Brissett was steady, completing 25 out of 36 passes for 276 yards and two passing touchdowns, but his lack of mobility compared to Murray’s contributed to a six-sack day from Green Bay’s defense.
Offensively, the Packers struggled to create explosive plays, but came up big when they needed to, and that was enough. Green Bay improved to 4-1-1 on the season and is set to travel to Pittsburgh to face a familiar face in new Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
However, before we look ahead to that epic clash, let’s highlight the standouts from Sunday’s win:
TE Tucker Kraft
Overall, it wasn’t a super impressive outing for Kraft stats wise (58 yards on five catches), but he did come up big in clutch moments. It started with his 22-yard catch and run on 3rd and 3 late in the third quarter. The first down extended Green Bay’s drive, which was capped off by Kraft’s 7-yard touchdown reception to make everything equal at 20-20 to start the fourth. Then came the gut check call of the day when Matt LaFleur left his offense on the field on 4th and 2 down by three with 2:32 remaining. Rather than play it safe and go for the tie, LaFleur put his trust in Jordan Love. The gutsy decision worked out as Love found Kraft for a 15-yard pickup to set up the game-winning touchdown.
A starfish and then a spike… must have been a Tucker Kraft TD!

LB Quay Walker
Walker was having a quiet season as a pass rusher up until today. He blitzed up the middle to secure his first of the year to force a 3rd and 23 late in the second quarter. Unfortunately, the sack didn’t lead to a stop as Arizona’s offense completed a 43-yard pass on the very next play and later scored a touchdown to take a 13-3 lead. But Walker wasn’t done. He was able to get home on another blitz during the third quarter to combine for a sack with Kingsley Enagbare. Walker turned in probably his best performance of the season against the Cardinals, totaling a team-high nine combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three quarterback hits.

K Lucas Havrisik
The Packers have done it again with back-to-back in-season kicker signings. After making all five of his kicks last week, Havrisik was a perfect 5-for-5 again this week, with three extra points and makes from 31 and 61. When Arizona scored a touchdown with seven seconds left in the first half, Green Bay could have played it safe and gone into halftime trailing by 10. Instead, Matt LaFleur got aggressive, and it paid off. A 22-yard completion to Doubs allowed Havrisik to attempt a franchise-record 61-yarder to make it a 7-point game. Incredibly, he drilled it with plenty of distance to cut the deficit to 13-6. The former UFL kicker likely won’t be around much longer, but he has done a fantastic job filling in while Brandon McManus recovers from a quad injury.

Edge Rashan Gary
After the offense went three and out to start the second half, the pressure was on the defense to get a stop. That set the stage for Gary’s momentum-shifting strip sack on third down, which Evan Williams recovered at the Cardinals’ 44-yard line. Gary’s turnover-causing play set up Green Bay’s ensuing touchdown drive to tie it at 13-13 in the third quarter. Takeaways haven’t been as plentiful for the Packers this season, but they will certainly take game-changing ones like the one Gary produced.

RB Josh Jacobs
There was serious doubt about whether Jacobs could suit up this week after sustaining a calf injury during Friday’s practice. Jacobs was a true game-time decision, but decided to give it a go and ended up being a difference maker. He totaled 55 yards on 13 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. One was to tie it at 13-13 in the third, and the other to give the Packers the lead with less than two minutes remaining. Jacobs has given this team his all over the past two weeks after rushing for a season-high 93 yards while playing through an illness in last week’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Edge Micah Parsons
We’ve established that the Packers’ pass rush had a great day, but it was Parsons who led the charge. His first drive of the day was one of his best of the season. He generated pressure on a 3rd down, had a tackle for loss, and then had a sack on 3rd and goal to force the Cardinals to kick a field goal after possessing the ball for nearly seven and a half minutes. From there, you knew it might be a big game for Parsons, but no one expected it to be this good. He finished with a career-best three sacks, with the last two coming during crucial moments in the fourth quarter. His second sack forced Arizona to settle for another field goal after having a first and goal. The field goal only allowed the Cardinals to take a 23-20 lead instead of a seven-point lead with nine minutes remaining. Then, after Jacobs’ go-ahead touchdown, Parsons would sack Brissett again to put Arizona into a 2nd and 19 on its final do-or-die drive. The sack helped cause the Cardinals’ potential game-winning drive to stall at Green Bay’s 27. In addition to recording his 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5 sacks of the season, Parsons tied his season-high 10 pressures to cap off another dominant performance.
