Big Ten recognizes Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese with weekly award

Ohio State had a couple of its stars earn Big Ten weekly honors on Monday. Quarterback Julian Sayin was awarded the Freshman of the Week, and linebacker Arvell Reese was named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Penn State on Saturday.

Reese led the team with 12 tackles over the weekend, including 2.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. It’s the first time this season that Reese has been named the conference’s defender of the week. He has quickly put himself into contention for some postseason awards, such as the Butkus (best linebacker) and Bednarik (best defender), but has also made himself very appealing to NFL scouts with his size, speed, and athleticism. He will almost assuredly be a first-round NFL draft pick should he decide to declare a year early this April.

Reese is the second Ohio State player to win the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week, joining Caden Curry after the win at Washington on Sept. 27. Reese and his teammates will next be in action against Purdue in West Lafayette on Saturday.
