Earth observation from space: New satellites to deliver precise emission maps

As of 2027, new satellites for CO2 measurement (CO2M) will be launched into orbit. Originally, only two were planned—but simulations by Empa convinced the European Commission to have a third satellite built. This will significantly improve coverage on a global scale: instead of every five days, the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) can now be measured around the globe every 3.5 days.
