Former Steelers All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick could be traded before the deadline

The NFL trade deadline is the end of business today and we expect to see a lot of players move in a hurry. Bad teams are dumping salary and hoarding NFL draft capital and good teams are putting final pieces in place for the second half of the season.

One team that looks to be having itself a fire sale is the 2-7 Miami Dolphins. They already traded away edge rusher Jaelan Phillips with more moves on the way. According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, one Dolphins star who could be dealt before the NFL trade deadline is former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick was originally drafted in the first round by the Dolphins back in 2018 and he spent his first two seasons there. Then the Dolphins traded Fitzpatrick to the Steelers during that second season and he was named an All-Pro three times in six years in Pittsburgh. Then in the 2025 offseason, the Steelers traded Fitzpatrick back to the Dolphins in exchange for cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. Now, he could end up on this third team in two years if the Dolphins trade him before the trade deadline.

Before any Steelers fans ask, no, the Steelers cannot trade for Fitzpatrick. Rules in the CBA prohibit a player from being traded back to the team that traded them away in the same season.
