Lions add versatile ex-Patriots OL to practice squad

The Detroit Lions added a little reinforcement to the injury-plagued offensive line on Tuesday. No, it wasn’t a new starter brought in via a trade-deadline deal.

The Lions signed rookie offensive lineman Jack Conley to the team’s practice squad. The 6-foot-7, 333-pound Conley was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He played collegiately at Boston College, where he played in a school-record 60 games. Many of those were played with Lions starting LG Christian Mahogany.

Conley primarily played right guard for the Patriots this summer and had been on and off New England’s practice squad. He did have collegiate starts at both left tackle and right tackle in addition to right guard.

That positional versatility could come in handy on the practice field. Detroit had four starting offensive linemen leave the Week 9 loss to Minnesota at various points, though only Mahogany–who figures to be placed on injured reserve–is believed to be out for any substantial time.
