NFL experts grade Jaguars' Jakobi Meyers trade with Raiders

Grades are being handed out to the Jacksonville Jaguars for their pre-trade deadline deal with the Las Vegas Raiders for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

So how did the Jaguars fare in the eyes of the NFL experts?

In order to land Meyers, the Jaguars traded away a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Wide receiver quickly became a major need for the Jaguars.  On Friday, Jacksonville placed Travis Hunter on injured reserve. Tim Patrick was ruled out of this past Sunday’s game with a groin injury, while Dyami Brown would exit late with a concussion, and Brian Thomas Jr. also sustained an ankle injury.

In addition to that, more steady playmaking from the receiver position was a need as well.

Meyers is an experienced player who can line up both inside and out, and he’s been a very reliable pass-catcher throughout his career. The Jaguars, meanwhile, have had issues with drops this season.

Meyers has also been good after the catch this season, and he is coming off a career year in 2024, where he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time.

Now, let’s see what grade the Jaguars are receiving for this deal.

Jaguars’ Jakobi Meyers trade grades

CBS Sports: B-

Tyler Sullivan: “Meyers is a solid No. 2 option at receiver, making him a strong complement to Brian Thomas Jr. in the Jaguars’ offense. As noted, Hunter is currently on injured reserve, which created a bit of a hole at the position group for Jacksonville. If/when Hunter returns after he’s eligible following the next three games, it’ll be interesting to see how the offense operates. It’s possible for Hunter to see more time at cornerback with Meyers now in the fold, so the addition gives them flexibility.”

USA Today: B

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz: “The Jaguars’ hyperaggressive general manager took another page from the Los Angeles Rams‘ playbook and pursued a veteran at a key spot at the trade deadline. The splash factor doesn’t measure up to what Les Snead has delivered in previous years, but it still aids Jacksonville’s surprise resurgence in the AFC South.”

ESPN: C+

Seth Walder: “I can understand acquiring someone to bridge the gap until both are healthy, but a fourth- and a sixth-round pick is pretty pricey for a rental player — Meyers is a free agent after this season — who doesn’t necessarily raise the ceiling that much over Parker Washington and Dyami Brown (who suffered a concussion last week).”

Sports Illustrated: B+

Gilberto Manzano: “Meyers, 28, might not have been the best pure wide receiver on the trading block. However, his versatility provides a ton of value for a Jaguars offense that’s still searching for an identity during coach Liam Coen’s first year in Jacksonville.”
