Steve Nash: We went to play these guys preseason in like Ontario, California, or somewhere. I don’t even remember this. I’m guarding Stephen Curry. I think they put up like 50 in the first quarter. Maybe it was 45, but it felt like a 50-piece, right? He’s running everywhere. I’m like, back is broke. I couldn’t have probably stopped him even if I were 100%. And now I’m like dragging around Steve Kerr putting me in every action. I’m looking over at Steve like c’mon Stevie. He’s over there smiling, too. They’re laughing at me. Alvin Gentry over there laughing at me like, ‘No, let’s see what you got’. I’m like, man, literally like three, four more days of thinking on it, I was like ‘Yeah, I think it’s time (to retire). And that was it. I called Mitch Kupchak.

Stephen Curry: Don Nelson, he went in the weight room cuz to your point, I came in 180 lbs maybe. They’re trying to get me in the weight room doing all these lifts and stuff. I’m shooting like trash in training camp like the first week. He walked in there and cussed out everybody in the room. He was like ‘y’all killing his shot! He’s lifting too much weight’. And to me, I didn’t know that as a concept cuz like I always just wanted to get stronger. Like most of it was just vanity (Laughs). Well, I didn’t even think about it in terms of shot. I know that there’s a range of like body composition that matters to making sure everything moves right. So, if you’re doing a big transformation, you can’t change how your body moves. I never thought I could get to that point, but then when he caught it out, I was like, wait, are they really messing up my shot? YouTube | Nov. 4, 2025
LeBron James: When did you figure out what you’re doing on the floor is transcending a whole generation of players? Stephen Curry: when Trae Young came in the league and that was like the first person who they said was like the next me, even though he’s a different player and I knew him when he was in high school, that was like the first time you’re like one, I’m getting a little older with these kids that are watching you, who are now emulating their their game after the way that you play or like there’s now expectations on said person to be you or play like you. That might be the first time I thought about it or really experienced like what the impact was. But I got that ‘you-ruined-the-game’ question all the time after Mark Jackson said it and now it’s kind of tongue-in-cheek just cuz you understand there is an influence and now it’s about how you can allow kids to hear the story about the entire journey and not just the finished product. And all of the above doesn’t even factor in the rise of NBA superstars — Damian Lillard (Weber State), Trae Young (Oklahoma) and Stephen Curry (Davidson) — taking on official roles with their respective alma mater’s recruiting programs. “The trend will only continue to accelerate,” said Wes Wilcox, who left his post as assistant GM for the Sacramento Kings late last season to become GM of the Utah Runnin’ Utes. “The number of colleges looking toward the NBA to help in this space is only going to rise.”marcstein.substack.com | Nov. 3, 2025
After acknowledging his role in the team’s recent struggles, Stephen Curry delivered a candid assessment of what needs to change — starting with himself. “Just be professional,” he said. “Understand what you need to do to get your body and mind ready to bring your best self. That’s where, as veterans — and I include myself — you have to demonstrate that and execute it.” Heavy.com | Nov. 2, 2025
The Golden State Warriors’ early-season momentum came to a crashing halt Saturday night, as they fell 114-109 to an injury-depleted Indiana Pacers team — their second straight defeat following a 4–1 start. Warriors coach Steve Kerr didn’t mince words after the game, calling out his team’s “lack of focus” during what he believed were two very winnable games. Franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry took it a step further — placing the blame squarely on his own shoulders. “This is one of those games where you just look in the mirror,” Curry said. “There were parts of the game where I made it too hard on all of us — not getting organized, bad possessions, a little lack of energy. You give a team like that life … it’s just one of those games where you’ve got to play better throughout the meat of the game, so that you give yourself that breathing room where a couple shots here and there don’t determine the outcome.” Heavy.com | Nov. 2, 2025
Stephen Curry: The beginning of the third quarter, I think just didn’t really get anything out of that that run, whatever, six minutes I was out there. And again, when you’re in that position, you have a bunch of empty minutes. You give a team life. It’s the NBA. There’s a lot of talent all over the league and you don’t want to turn it into a shot here, shot there type of game, especially on the road. So, that first six minutes, the group that came in, finished third and start the fourth, they were dominant and then that kind of fed into the last six minutes. So, I got to be better just being more decisive, more aggressive, even not to shoot, but to play make and get everybody organized. YouTube | Nov. 2, 2025
“The tricky part is obvious,” Kerr said. “We’ve had a lot of games here over the years — not here in Milwaukee but here in Golden State — where we have a really rough trip. And we sit Steph, and I get an email, (Warriors senior vice president of communications) Raymond (Ridder) gets an email from a fan, and he says ‘I just spent $2,000 dollars on a trip here and tickets and plane ride and hotel and Steph doesn’t play.’ We genuinely feel terrible about that. We want our fans to be able to enjoy watching Steph play. And so the only real answer — we all know what the real answer is, and that is to shorten the season. Good luck.”New York Times | Oct. 30, 2025
