What Colgate head coach Matt Langel said about Michigan State basketball after loss to MSU

Michigan State basketball hosted Colgate on Monday night to kickoff the season. To their credit, Colgate, led by head coach Matt Langel, threw several haymakers at the Spartans before MSU was finally able to put them down in the second half to start the season 1-0.

After the game, Matt Langel addressed the media to discuss the game, and he was incredibly gracious for the opportunity for his team to play in the Breslin Center, he was also very complimentary of MSU’s program, and in particular, their rebounding. While Colgate is coming off a bad year, Langel was also quick to remind the media in attendance that his team has been a perennial tournament squad for a while now, and that he expects this opportunity to help them immensely moving forward.

“I would have loved to be in the MSU locker room at half. They crashed the boards. We aren’t going to get the football pads out.”

“We are also teaching memories. Playing at the Breslin Center, Tom Izzo on the sidelines, tying it in the second half, that is a story they are going to tell the rest of their lives if they are a basketball junkie like most of us are.”

“If we are going to be champions of the Patriot League, where we’ve won it five of the last six, we are going to face a big team like them (MSU).”
