Southern Ontario is home to 133 at-risk species, 98% of which could be locally extinct in the next 25 years if the provincial government takes no action to protect them. But a new study from the University of British Columbia and World Wildlife Fund Canada has found that an investment of just $7 per Ontarian in eight conservation strategies would help 75% of these species recover, including the black bear, the short-eared owl and the Blanding’s turtle.
