When the SEC announced that it will be moving to a longer conference schedule, they mentioned that playing more Power-5 programs and Notre Dame would be in the cards.
Well, it didn’t take long for one of its members to announce a home-and-home as on Wednesday afternoon Pete Thamel reported that the Irish and Auburn Tigers announced they’ll face off against each other in 2027 and 2028, with the first game being in South Bend.
There is plenty of interesting storylines with this game, especially on the Tigers side. They recently fired head coach Hugh Freeze and could be trying to bring in a big of a name as possible. Former Notre Dame quarterback commit Deuce Knight is still with Auburn also, but hasn’t played much and could potentially enter the transfer portal.
I don’t want to toot my own horn, but this was one of five SEC teams that I wanted Notre Dame to set games up with. We’ll see anymore on my wishlist happen, but this is a great start for the Irish getting Southeastern Conference teams on the schedule.
