For the first time in what feels like forever, the Chicago Bears are not a team to be counted out in the final moments of a close game.
Under new head coach Ben Johnson, Chicago is 5-3 and has won five of their last six games, and three of those wins have been one-score victories in the final moments of the game. Whether it be thanks to the offense or the defense, the Bears have played complete team football in the closing moments of their wins, and it’s showing true team chemistry.
After Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Caleb Williams spoke about how the players are coming together in the final minutes of close games and playing for one another through adversity, leading them to wins.
“That’s what we are, when things don’t go our way, when adversity hits, we find ways to win for each other,” Williams said. “I think that’s what it’s been this year. Offense not scoring, defense shows up. Defense and offense may give up a touchdown, special teams puts us in good field position and we kick game-winners. [Against Cincinnati] we had to put up a bunch of points to help our brothers and I think us doing that today helps build confidence for those guys on the other side of the ball, to let them know we have their back.”
The Bears continue to show a much different version of themselves this year under Johnson compared to Matt Eberflus. Last year, players were calling for harder coaching and more accountability, and at the halfway point of the 2025 season, they’ve built themselves a winning culture.
