Kochetkov shuts down New York, Hurricanes 3, Rangers 0

Pyotr Kochetkov made his season debut a huge success as he earned a 26 save shutout as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Rangers, 3-0 on Tuesday night at MSG.

Kochetkov had been getting over an injury since the start of the season but he certainly looked healthy enough during this performance.

The Rangers came out hard and controlled play for the beginning of the game. At one point they were outshooting Carolina, 12-5 but “Kooch” was equal to the task.

Later in the period the Hurricanes got some traction and generated some chances of their own.

Nikolaj Ehlers scored his first goal of the season with a blast from the point on a powerplay.

In the second period, Sean Walker scored from long range to make it 2-0 and the Rangers seemed to come undone.

The home team went for a long period of time without even generating a single shot on goal. (18 plus minutes). They finished with one shot on goal in the entire third period as the Canes put on a defensive clinic.

Seth Jarvis closed things out with an empty-netter late in the game.

The Canes will return home and prepare for a visit from Minnesota on Thursday night.
