The Denver Broncos stood pat and did not make any moves ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, but they did look into the statuses of a few players.
One notable player the Broncos called about was Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. The team’s initial interest in Waddle was widely reported, but Miami’s asking price proved to be too steep.
Another big-name receiver, New York Jets star Garrett Wilson, was not pursued by Denver. The Broncos “didn’t reach out or make offer to Jets” for Wilson, according to the Denver Post‘s Luca Evans. New York’s trade demands and Wilson’s salary presumably ruled out the possibility of a potential trade for the Broncos.
“We’ve invested in — we like this group and where we’re going,” Denver coach Sean Payton said of the wide receiver room after the trade deadline passed on Tuesday.
The Broncos will now enter the second half of the season with five receivers — Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, Marvin Mims and Trent Sherfield — on the active roster.
