The Seattle Seahawks made one move at Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. GM John Schneider acquired wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for fourth-and-sixth-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft. Meanwhile nothing materialized on the Riq Woolen front.
Woolen was mentioned as a potential trade deadline candidate for weeks. Furthermore, Woolen fueled speculation with this social media post. Seahawks fans began believing a trade announcement was maybe imminent.

Who knows what Woolen was referring to. Perhaps it was his reaction to the stunning New York Jets trade that sent fellow cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for multiple first-round picks. Both Gardner and Woolen were in the same 2022 draft class.
Woolen is playing on an expiring contract. He’s occasionally been criticized for his early-season play, though he’s improved in recent weeks. NFL Network analysts offered a post-deadline update, claiming the Seahawks held onto Woolen because of his improved performances.

Woolen will expect to sign a multi-year lucrative contract in the offseason. The Seahawks will have a difficult decision to make via free agency. Schneider bypassed potential opportunities to trade the physical cornerback in exchange for draft-pick compensation. Time will reveal if that was the correct decision, but Woolen makes the postseason-bound Seahawks better right now.
